As a creative individual, Pinterest has probably grabbed your attention as a platform for finding and sharing ideas. However, companies, small businesses and marketing experts are starting to notice that Pinterest can be a good platform for gaining views for a website too However, unlike Twitter, for instance, you need to be a little more creative and “tricky” to get the most out of Pinterest. If developing a presence on Pinterest is a priority for you, follow these simple tips and you are certain to get more pins, repins and likes on this hugely popular social media network.
Use Tags/Labels
When someone pins one of your images, the label that appears for the description automatically is the name you give your image. While the pinner can change this, quite often he or she will not. Because of this, you should put some care into the name you choose. Instead of naming the picture “image 1” or “asdf”, choose a name that fits in with your content or perhaps even utilizes the name of your blog or webpage.
Use Text on Your Image
If you have a picture that you anticipate will be popular, take time to include a small watermark on your image that leads viewers back to your page. You do not want to ruin the image with this, but providing a link back to your page will give you “advertising,” even if the image winds up somewhere that does not lead back to your page. Even if you are not talented at image enhancement, you can do this easily using Microsoft Paint or Gimp.
Ask for Pins
Some people may not think to pin the cool pages on your site, others may worry about copyright issues and be afraid to pin. In either of these cases, you could get more pins if you provide a “pin it” button and also add a simple line like “Please feel free to pin or share on Pinterest.” This simple step puts the Pinterest idea on the table and may earn you a few more pins.
Utilize Proper Descriptions
The best descriptions for Pinterest are between 200 and 300 characters. According to a study by marketing expert Dan Zarrella, pins that have descriptions of around 200 characters get the most pins and repins. A good description tells the story behind the image and will encourage interaction between Pinterest followers.
These are just a few simple ideas that can make Pinterest a great marketing tool for you. Remember, marketing opportunities are always out there, if you are willing to be creative and try something new.
